Access to Virtual and Action Learning live ONline

Having recently visited the British Council 's LearnEnglish area in Second Life I was struck by the resonance it may also have for UK born or recently arrived students from abroad who are yet to acquire full proficiency in English. In my experience some students learning English as an additional language (EAL) would really benefit from access to these learning environments. I was very impressed with the way the strong narratives are accompanied by multi-modal approaches to learning that really contextualise language learning, making meaning more explicit.

I can see real benefits for UK resident learners, particularly if supported in-world by White British learners who will be able to support and interact with the EAL learners, thereby modelling good use of English.

The challenge would be to spread the word nationally...how to do this?

Ok, then I guess we need to find out more about your community and then look at the generic organisations connected to that community and see if we can get the information to them. It might be worth starting with a small project in your own institution and then seeign where this leads.
