The 1920s Berlin sim is a wonderful reproduction of the Berlin in the 20s roleplaying this area of Charleston and a depression, of beggars in the streets, tiny apartments, a theatre that has seen better days, a dance hall in a damp basesment and lukewarm beer in dirty glasses.

Residents are asked to wear clothes of the 20s and a free set of clothes is being provided. There is an active role-playing community with great characters like Jo Yardley, a war widow, Petrus, the barman and the Keller, who might give you a glas of Absinth, when the police is not watching, during happy hour time at 2am SL time (10pm UK time).
http://www.1920sberlin.com/To stage a German course in this culturally and historically rich town was a natural choice.
In fact, this German course is an experiment to see whether a language teacher in Second Life can find a sim and a community where they could offer their courses and where offering language lessons in Second Life offers a real value-add for the learners. Introducing them to a community and place where they can come back to by themselves, a place where they can practise their German.
This experiment is also to try whether the successful methdology of languagelab.com can be reproduced by individual freelancing language teachers in the search for teaching opportunities outside already established language schools.
The methodology chosen is to produce a 'teleportnovela' of stories with real characters in avatar personas of the Berlin of the 20s. Instead of spending lots of time in role-playing these characters, we aim to spend time talking about them. The goal: language production. Error correction takes place by the teacher typing the correct version of German in the textchat in an attempt not to interrupt the flow of speech. Beginners and more expert users of Germans are in one group.
This is the experiment.
When does it take place?Every Thursday and Friday evening at 9pm Berlin time/ 12pm noon SL time.
Place: Hindenburg Schule in the 1920s Berlin Project,

DISCLAIMER: This course takes place outside the pedagogical development
work of the AVALON project team and is not part of action research. It is a course which aims to exploit Second Life as a "the third most popular social software application after YouTube and Facebook" ("Developing a five-stage model of learning in
Second Life" Salmon, Gilly, Nie, Ming and Edirisingha, Palitha (2010), Educational research, 52: 2, 169-182) teaching opportunities, viral marketing techniques and will extend beyond the end of the project, if this approach is successful. We plan to offer similar pilots in virtual Munich, Arstoria - a medieval role-playing community etc.
This forum thread will update you on the TeleportNovela or soap opera in Berlin of the 20s.
