Difficult one to quantify Stefanie. Most institutions who use SL are doing their classroom bit in RL and using SL for immersive practice. . The SL wiki might give you an idea how many language orientated institutions are using SL and you could asc...
I agree with Nergiz. Personally, I am not keen on the idea of a virtual classroom, especially a classroom that seeks to emulate a RL classroom - which IMHO fails to make use of the more exciting aspects of SL: virtual tourism, meeting native speak...
Counting teachers is probably equally difficult. A lot of teachers just do their own thing and don't meet or work with other teachers. How would you find them? Another question is who counts as a teacher? Would you only be interested in the profes...

Number of virtual classrooms/language schools in SL
Hi everyone, I have almost finished my final report on foreign language learning in SL and the implications for resource provision in academic libraries. Many of you have contributed to this as interview volunteers, so many thanks again for that. A couple of people who have read my draft report have suggested that I find some hard data about the number of virtual classrooms/language schools in SL. Sorry to have gotten back to you so late but if you are still doing the interviews I'd be happy to be interviewed. However, I am not doing any teaching or learning in SL and am quite new to Sl. If you still think it would be useful to interview me then I'd be happy to contribute. I think Skype would work better for me as I currently have some technical problems with SL.

I am trialling SL to provide students on an intercultural competence course, with out of class cultural experiences. Most of them are language learners so they have opportunities to practice language too. Am only at initial stages of use, and not done any language teaching, but would be happy to talk. Would prefer next week or after 8 June as will be away at a conference in HK until then.

Thank you for your message I am flat out right now and just not sure I would be able to fit in with your timeframe. If you would like to email me some questions I would be happy to answer them as I get some time in between my hetic schedule. I am teaching full-time in RL and at weird times in SL (5am) so as you can see it is a little difficult to fit in other things. Please feel free to send me questions though.
