I have been blown away by discovering that Google Earth now runs in a browser and that a lot of the cities are being build in 3D. The program to do so is Google Sketchup and it seems that this kind of crowdsourcing and geomapping are doing an amazing work behind the scenes.

Will our Avatars be able to walk google earth in future?

London, England

New York, United States of Amerika

Paris, France

Tokyo, Japan

Sydney, Australia

Isn't this amazing? Does this blow you away too?

Even more interesting is a mashup of Google Maps with street view, where you can actually walk through the city. Now add to this Google Earth 3D and imagine what you can do. We are almost there :-)

In answer to your question: it has to be possible!  We're already half way there in SL ... Thanks for sharing - great photos!

With the way things are going, 3D might be the only way we can appreciate the world in the future :-)

Thanks for sharing this information, Heike. It's just incroyable! We may undoubtedly use it for language teaching.
