If you build it, they will come - EduNation's success story

<  Update: 1 plot left as we are happy and proud to welcome Tuncer Can, PhD from Istanbul University English Language Teaching  Department, who would like to implement some activities on Second Life for his around 90 pre-service English teachers at their University >>>

Previous post:

We are overjoyed to announce that there are a mere two plots left on EduNation I and III, the two islands in Second Life, which currently host a lively and vibrant community of language educators with an average of 1100 visitors a month.

Two years of hard team work by Dr. Randall Sadler, our magic 3D builder, Carol Rainbow, our precious teacher trainer, myself, Heike Philp aka Gwen Gwasi, community builder, events manager and financial administrator and Paul East of the Pyramid Group, investor and financier of the first hour, made the impossible possible:

EduNation I is sold out and fully occupied with 16 residents and EduNation III is nearly sold out with 2 of the 20 plots left. Isn't this incredible?

More so, when looking back, we started the islands at a time when the mood of many educators were thoroughly damped by Lindenlab's announcement to discontinue the educational rate and by Gavin Dudeney pronouncing Second Life dead. As you know, those reputed to be dead live longest. Fact is, that the increased rates made educators move to locations like EduNation and instead of running their own costly sim, they decided to accept our hosted service.

When we took EduNation over, a third of the residents were educators of all ranks. Randall and myself solemnly declared our resolve to foster a community of language educators. We are very happy that our dream has been fulfilled.

6 Universities, a reservation by an Australian University, 3 research organisations, 2 teacher training organisations, numerous language schools and language educators.

We are sooooo proud to host the following impressive list of residents....

Community of Practise

Vance Stevens and many active SL educators

Oh yes, we have wonderful residents. More so, the island is of utmost beauty. Look at this jewel, thanks to the amazing handywork of Randall, the most amazing builder ever.

EduNation is proud to host workshops for educators, EVO sessions (VILLAGE, MachinEVO), language learning activities (Virtlantis, Italian Singing lesson and conversation activities, French lessons and tours, Caffe Italia, Speak Easily, SLESL, Sol Siglo 21, British Computer Society's sim for teenager from 13 years), teacher training by various universities and organisations (ALSIC, University of Illionois Urbana Champaign, SLATES etc), some 100 holodecks for teachers with various scenes, regular teacher meetings (SLexperiments every 1st Fri of the month and 3rd Wed of the month), and we are very much looking forward to our highlight of the year:

SLanguages Annual Symposium, 28-30 September 2012.
