AVALON partner, Klaus Hammermüller, travelled all the way from Vienna to join the SURFnet OpenSim project's 2009 final meeting, sharing experiences and know-how and discuss further collaboration with NIFLAR. We exchanged ideas for further collaboration between Avalon and Niflar, such as exchanging 3D content and tasks.
Klaus also presented his ideas on a follow up network proposal to Brussels involving NIFLAR, AVALON and other potential partners interested in future experiments and knowledge exchange on 3D and Education.
More than 24 hours of travel in 2 days. Chapeau Klaus and thanks a lot for your input!
I also would like to use this blogpost to point to our project coordinator's overview of NIFLAR's first year.

I think we should certainly try to take a significant role in this if we can. Thanks for the comments Graham.

There could be a possibility of involving EUROCALL in future collaboration. EUROCALL, as I think you all know, has now set up a Virtual Worlds Special Interest Group in collaboration with CALICO, our affiliated association in the USA. Second Life will feature in pre-conference workshops at the next CALICO and EUROCALL conferences in 2010. We will be running an introductory workshop for beginners at both conferences, and there will be opportunities for other people to put forward suggestions for hands-on workshops and to present papers.

The CALL for Papers for EUROCALL 2010 has already gone out, and the deadline for submissions is 8 February 2010. Note that the main theme of the conference is highly relevant to projects such as AVALON and NIFLAR, namely: Languages, cultures and virtual communities. See the EUROCALL/CALICO SIG Ning:

The EUROCALL Executive Committee will be meeting in Bordeaux on 6 March 2010 to discuss arrangements for the conference.

Thanks for this update Ton, it's great to see something tangible coming out of our collaboration. I think we should be planning ahead for some joint conference presentations.
